Why in the world would an animal eat my plastic flower pot? Is this the work of a squirrel or a raccoon? This worries me -- we were hoping to plant some veggies this weekend and now I'm afraid my vegetable garden may meet the same fate as this poor pot. This explains why my neighbors are currently building Fort Knox a fence around their backyard.

Oh my gosh! From my experience with raccoons - they just pull the plants out, looking for grubs etc. underneath.
When you look at your photo, the opening with the dark dirt behind looks like an alligator or a ghost (see the eyes!). It's like looking at cloud shapes - what do you see?? Nate's Gramma
I agree with Nate's Gramma- it looked like a ghost to me!
I'm willing to bet it's an opossum. What are you going to do?
