The 7th Day Is NOT A Day of Rest
I'm sorry, Lord, but I hate Sundays.
Nate always falls asleep on the way home from church. I try and quietly transfer him from the car to his crib for his afternoon nap. He immediately starts crying. Today he's been crying non-stop for 50 mins. (and for those of you with little ones, an 8-month old cries very loudly). Last Sunday when I went in his room to try and calm him down it only made things worse. So I'm letting him cry it out because I don't know what else to do. It makes me very unhappy and cranky. 60 mins. will be my limit before I go in and get him so the countdown is on. He doesn't do this at all during the week -- only on Sundays. Go figure.
Update: He did not sleep. I got him up. "I won!" says Nate.

Little Bald Dudes
On Friday I took Nate on a walk in Glendale with his future buddies Wes and Sam and their mom Mindy. The Harrison twins were born this past Christmas Eve. Here are a couple pictures from their few moments of guy-bonding:
Sunday, 2:20pm: just realized I wrote Wes and Nate instead of Wes and Sam in the above post. My mom also left a message on my answering machine informing me of this. In the future, I'll have to do a better job of proofreading....sorry Sammy.

Rest in Peace Bob
Yesterday I discovered that the Bob's in Glendale (Glenoaks Blvd.) is closed. What a surprise. I ate there countless times, especially during my high school days. In fact, I think I ate there in my pjs one morning as part of my drill team initiation. And during my junior year, somebody "borrow" Bob and he was dressed up like Santa and sat in the school quad for a day before the admin. returned him. In 2006 Mom, Eric, and I had a run-in with a rude Bob's waitress that probably would have scared off most people. But not us -- we kept going back to Bob's (suckers!). So my last Bob's meal was with Mom and a tiny Nate asleep in his carseat on the table when he was 3-4 mos. old. Goodbye Glendale Bob's. I'll miss you. Now I'll have to patronize the Toluca Lake Bob's....won't be the same.

A Hair Don't
When your favorite large barrel curling iron breaks at 6:30am on a workday, what's a girl to do? Out of desperation, you reach for the "2nd tier" curling iron, and - surprise -- your hair ends up looking like the mom from That 70s Show:

Magic Words and Sounds
Our crop...in Burbank
We've planted herbs in our backyard planter so that we can stop buying expensive plastic packets of pathetic-looking Rosemary, Thyme, etc. from the grocery store. We hope to be able to cook with our very own Oregano, Mint, Rosemary, Parsley, and Thyme. Here's another view, as well as the seedlings of our Heirloom Tomatoes, Jalapeno Peppers, Anaheim Chilis, and Bell Peppers. Won't it be great if we can make our own salsa?? Probably not in time for Cinco de Mayo but still... Basil and strawberries will be added by Farmer Lee in the next few weeks.

What's In A Name?
Lee just referred to my blog as Family Jewels. I spent several days coming up with Jewelry Box -- I like everything it symbolizes. A jewelry box holds treasures, momentos, and family heirlooms. My life with Lee and Nate is a treasure and our traditions, stories, and memories will hopefully be passed down to future Cooks. Plus, I'm a girl who loves looking at jewelry -- costume and the good stuff :) So I'll pretend I didn't hear the "family jewels" comment.

I Don't Text or Twitter Either
Things I should be doing instead of creating a blog:
- Working on Nate's baby journal
- Sweeping the bathroom floor
- Laundry, laundry, laundry
- Reading a book that doesn't have the words "parenting" or "mom" in the title
- Babyproofing the entire house
- Cleaning out the garage (is it time for a garage sale again??)
I could continue, but you get the point.
I may be too much of a perfectionist for this -- it's taken me about 25 mins. to write this first entry. That's not a good sign. Hopefully, I'll get better at this. So stay tuned!
